Out of Respect follows five LGBTQ young adults overcoming the repercussions of family neglect and abandonment. The story spans one year, including first-person video diaries and intimate interviews about the day-to-day hustles of survival. Prevention of homelessness is explored by following the five as they navigate a new LGBT youth-service initiative created by Pathfinders.
I directed, produced, and edited the documentary using filming support from UW-Milwaukee students. Upon completion, I led a campaign to support homeless LGBTQ youth. This “outreach in action” became a model for other cities and at-risk youth organizations.
